A vibrant infographic and suite of illustrations that can be used in a wide range of resources to support DOC’s critical conservation work.
We created a suite of illustrations that covers the diversity of Aotearoa’s natural environment: birds, plants, insects, marine animals, freshwater fish, reptiles, frogs, bats, predators and pests, as well as recreation and heritage. We created a bespoke illustration style to sit closely with DOC’s brand. The style is bold, fresh and colourful, evocative of mid-century NZ travel posters.
While it appears quite simple, every species was illustrated with accuracy, drawing on expert advice from DOC’s own team to ensure anatomical correctness, colouring, and distinctive features were true to life while still fitting within the bespoke illustration style. The illustrations can be used at any scale, across all media.
The aim of the infographic is to communicate DOC’s role as the largest provider of visitor activities in New Zealand. To help showcase the breadth of DOC’s work, we created a scene of Aotearoa New Zealand, from Tai Tokerau at the top, through the Abel Tasman, to the Southern Alps.
Statistics showing the scale of assets that DOC looks after is anchored in the landscape, connecting them to place and helping the viewer recognise them easily. The infographic has been created in layers, so it can be used all as one, or pulled apart to focus on particular areas of work.
At handover, we supplied all design files so DOC’s in-house team can easily adapt the assets for future campaigns, ensuring the toolkit will continue to support their work well beyond this project.
"Gusto offered expert advice and design solutions that were thoughtfully crafted to be versatile and future-proof."
