Bringing the Scope of Practice to life through illustration

We developed an illustrated infographic that reframes the Midwifery Scope of Practice as something lived and relational. The infographic brings together key statements from the Scope of Practice with scenes of midwives working in their communities – alongside whānau, carers, colleagues, and across different models of care – conveying the breadth and diversity of midwifery practice in Aotearoa.

The second page of the Scope of Practice infographic includes the regulatory language for each area of work in more detail. The illustrations are used again to create a connection to the front page.

The Midwifery Scope of Practice enables midwives to expand their practice with further education and gaining experience. We created two infographics, to provide examples of expanded practice activities and how they relate to midwives’ core work, and a flow diagram for better understanding whether certain midwifery activities can be provided as expanded practice within the Scope of Practice.

The illustrations are also a library of assets for the Council to re-use – for social media, the Council website or other communication pathways.
