Every month, tens of thousands of New Zealanders benefit from the Access and Choice programme. The programme offers free support to help people manage their mental and physical wellbeing. It is available in various locations, including Kaupapa Māori, Pacific, and youth settings, as well as in general practice (GP). Access and Choice addresses the historic gap in the mental health and addiction system. It provides support to the ‘missing middle’ to help people access wellbeing support without referral.
These new services are already operational in many cities and towns around Aotearoa New Zealand, and continue to grow. The programme is rapidly gaining momentum, prompting Te Whatu Ora to create a clear and user-friendly website for people to find local support.
We designed the Access and Choice website using bright, colourful illustrations to feel inclusive and welcoming. These illustrations also serve as visual markers for each section, helping users navigate the site. The illustrations were carefully created to be inclusive, representing objects from various cultures that contribute to improved wellbeing.
After the website went live, Te Whatu Ora wanted to direct people to it. Working with Te Whatu Ora, we created a suite of engaging digital and printed campaign resources to lead people to the site. Items included eye-catching posters, brochures and animated ads. The ads were shared across various social media platforms to raise awareness and encourage people to visit the site. The campaign was designed to inspire people to boost their wellbeing and find support through the website. It also shared positive experiences from others who have already accessed these services.
The campaign empowers people to boost their wellbeing. The calming design reassures them that everyone experiences ups and downs, but with Access and Choice, you don’t have to go through it alone.
