We created a suite of engaging infographics to visually explain the goals, innovations and efficiencies being made to reduce emissions in New Zealand schools and kura. The infographics are designed to sit within a detailed report addressing climate change across the education system.
Tō tātou taiao – Our environment
For this infographic we created a slice of life scene of Aotearoa, including three stages of schooling (ECE, high school and tertiary) sitting within the backdrop of a bright and bustling community landscape. Illustrative elements are chosen to help the audience recognise themselves and their communities within the scene, and the inclusion of native flora and fauna help ground it in New Zealand. This infographic illustrates the key focus areas of the Ministry for education and innovation in understanding and mitigating climate change. Its goal is to communicate that schools do not sit alone their response to climate change, but are part of a wider ecosystem that includes parents and whānau, councils, and service providers.
Ngā iti Kahurangi
This infographic illustrates the innovations in small or remote schools to help address emissions and improve the learning environments for tamariki. Ngā Iti Kahurangi seeks to improve lighting, noise levels, temperature, energy efficiency and comfort. Innovations and developments include efficiency in transport to and from schools; LEDs; acoustic panels in teaching spaces; thermal insulation in ceilings and carpet tiles in primary schools.
Emissions savings in schools
This infographic provides a snapshot view of annualised carbon emissions, to help people easily understand the scale of emissions savings across diverse areas in the education system.
These three infographics explore the different stages of the lifecycle of emissions in material, energy and water resources.
